果蠅如何形成長期記憶

   美國貝勒醫學院(Baylor College of Medicine)的研究顯示,對果蠅施以包含休息間隔的特殊訓練,鈣離子會湧入蕈狀體神經元(mushroom body neurons),此可驗證果蠅的長期記憶形成機制。
  貝勒醫學院分子和细胞生物學教授Ronald Davis博士與其同僚以間隔訓練(spaced training)方式,教導果蠅學習氣味與以輕微電擊刺激之間的關係。戴维斯先給予果蠅訓練試驗,休息過後再進行試驗。休息對能造成持續數日的記憶極其重要。於此試驗,五次間隔訓練能產生維持一天以上的記憶,然後利用功能性影像技術(functional imaging)去檢視果蠅腦部形成記憶的時機。
  Davis博士聲稱,果蠅訓練之前,可觀察到當其接受氣味時,一些鈣離子流入蕈狀體神經元;不過於果蠅接受特殊訓練,曝露在氣味環境24小時後,可見到更多的鈣離子湧入蕈狀體神經元,所增加的鈣離子流比照了果蠅的長期記憶。Davis博士與其他研究人員利用特殊的實驗室技術,可以藉著限制蛋白質功能而阻擋鈣離子流,此蛋白質對形成與長期記憶有關的新突觸極具重要性。
